Burke Mountain Cubing Fall 2019





 Spectators are welcome to the second-ever World Cube Association competition held in Vermont. Cubers are coming from all over the world to compete in a variety of cubing styles that range from solving the cube blindfolded, to one-handed events.

Wilderness First Aid & SOLO CPR Certification

 Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides is proud to serve as the sponsor and instructional provider of SOLO wilderness medicine courses in Northern Vermont. The two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is SOLO's most popular creating a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Initially offered in 1975, this course was the first of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based. SOLO CPR certification is included as a part of all WFA courses. This is a great course for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips.  One Day ONLY! Be sure to Pass the word, Mark your Calendars, and start cleaning out your sheds and closets.

The Annual Burke Ski Swap will be held on Sunday, November 3rd with Consignment drop off day being held on Saturday, November 2nd.

Have some old skis, boots, snowboards, cross-country skis, or any winter gear collecting dust around your house? Did you or a family member grow over the summer and need new equipment? Well if this is the case, the Annual Burke Ski Swap is just for you.

On the 3rd, the doors will be open from 12 pm to 3 pm to accept your new and gently used winter gear. If you wish to drop off items as a donation, we will be accepting gently used winter gear from 10 am to 11 am. Please do not bring straight skis, broken items, and dirty or torn clothing as we will not accept these items.

On the 3rd, the doors will open at 8 am for the long await rush to find the best deals in the North East Kingdom. Cash, Check, or Credit Cards are accepted.

You will receive 75% of the proceeds IF your item(s) sells. If not, you will have from 2 pm to 3 pm on the 3rd to retrieve your items. If not, they will be donated to the West Burke Ski Shop.

 The LOC is seeking chili chefs for our 12th annual Chili Cookoff. The cookoff has become a local tradition and we are in need of chefs to share their best chili recipes! It is $20 to enter and you can enter individually or as a team.

Also going on at the same time will be the annual Pre-Season Steezin' Rail Jam, with plenty of swag; raffle prizes; live music and a beer tent by Pizza Man.

You’re invited to the biggest party of the year, the annual Catamount Benefit Auction on Saturday, November 9th at the Catamount Arts Center in the Masonic Temple located at 115 Eastern Avenue in St. Johnsbury. The action begins at 5:30pm with the reception. The live auction will begin at 7:00pm.

Due to the large number of items, we will begin the buy-it-now portion of the silent auction on November 1st.

As always, the admission ticket includes all the beverages, food, and entertainment for a fabulous evening.

Appalachian Pack Basket Making Workshop

This is an amazing crafting opportunity. Andy Paonessa, a skilled craftsman and naturalist who has been making pack baskets for over 12 years, will provide step-by-step instructions for you to make your own sturdy Black Ash (commonly called Brown Ash) pack basket, complete with cedar bottoms and skids, as well as canvas straps. Andy will also supply all materials, which he gathers locally and processes by hand. Processing the Black Ash involves pounding the trunks in order to remove the annual growth rings into thin, flexible yet strong strips suitable for basket making.

The two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is SOLO's most popular creating a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Initially offered in 1975, this course was the first of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based. SOLO CPR certification is included as a part of all WFA courses. The story of displacement is a universal human story. Whether displaced through forces beyond our control, through choice, or even through the acceleration of cultural and technological evolution around us, all humans are marked by adaptation and re-orientation. Understanding this helps us understanding ourselves.

In 2019, after working for years with military veterans and their stories, The Telling Project officially launched this new initiative, “The Same Moon,” creating performances in which immigrant and refugee populations had the opportunity to tell their stories to their communities. Whether generations past, or in their own lifetimes, every American citizen bears the legacy of displacement – an experience that has impacted, and unites, us all.

During the late summer and early fall KCP Presents will work with the nationally acclaimed Telling Project to meet with Vermonters who have power experiences of migration to share. Through a series of dialogues, we’ll create a documentary theater script. Then we’ll rehearse the performance to present this evening-length show.

The programs consist of cardiovascular, strength, and metabolic conditioning. The program is not individualized as compared to personal training, semi-private, or buddy training. This is the more cost-effective option for individuals who are looking for a structured exercise program without the cost of personal training. Training times are at the individual and trainer’s discretion.

Wilderness First Responder Review & CPR Recertification





  $175 per person - tuition only. SOLO CPR re-certification included. Wilderness Medical Associates, Wilderness Medicine Institute, University of Vermont, Aerie Backcountry Medicine, ASHI, Wilderness Medicine Outfitters, Wilderness Medicine Training Center, and Remote Medical International WFR certifications are recognized by SOLO for recertification.

 Kingdom Adventures Mountain Guides is proud to serve as the sponsor and instructional provider of SOLO wilderness medicine courses in Northern Vermont. The two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is SOLO's most popular creating a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Initially offered in 1975, this course was the first of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based. SOLO CPR certification is included as a part of all WFA courses. This is a great course for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips. The WFA may be used to recertify your SOLO WFR. Please email us for additional course registration materials.
