Winners of the Burke Chamber Christmas Tree Contest

announced December 14, 2023

East Burke, VT – It was a full day of holiday fun in Burke, VT on Sunday, December 10th. Santa started off the day arriving via wagon ride to the Community Building in West Burke with over 100 families waiting to greet him. While they waited to tell Santa their Christmas wishes, the kids enjoyed cider and cookies along with coloring and cookie decorating projects. Hayden Tanner and his Belgian horses, Greta and Jenna, were also there to take families for wagon rides through the village.

Later in the day, folks gathered to check out the brilliant display of Christmas Trees lighting up the green at the Burke Mountain Club/East Burke Library and learn the winners of the tree contest. The contest is organized by The Burke Area Chamber of Commerce. Langlais Family Tree Farm provided the trees which were each ‘adopted’ and decorated by a local school or business. Impartial judges chose five winners at the Tree Lighting Celebration on Sunday. Each winner received $100 for a charity of their choice.

And the winners are…

  • Best Lights: Tim Scott Real Estate won this category with a beautifully decorated tree featuring a stunning, lighted tree topper. They chose the Peacham Elementary School Ski Program to receive the $100 prize.
  • Best Decorations: Century 21 Farm & Forest Realty won this category with a Nutcracker themed tree including a life size Nutcracker and Mouse King guarding the tree. Kingdom Kids will receive $100 on their behalf.
  • Best Business Tree: Community National Bank won with a ‘Gnome for the Holiday’ themed tree. They chose Kingdom Animal Shelter to receive the $100 prize.
  • Best School Tree: Burke Town School won this category with cheerful, hand-made decorations and an awesome little ski lift helping them onto the tree. Burklyn Arts Council will receive $100 on their behalf.
  • Best Overall Tree: Darling Hill Farm won this category with a beautiful, bird themed tree featuring a variety of bird species ornaments, birch tree style garland and real bird nests including an abandoned Robin’s nest with actual eggs still in it. They chose Kingdom Kids to receive $100.

The trees will be up until mid-January. All are encouraged to take a walk on the green and get a close up look at each one to check out the details, imagination and holiday spirit with which each one was decorated. Photos of all the trees are also on the Burke Area Chamber of Commerce facebook page.
