Water Sports
With over 50 lakes, ponds and brooks in the Burke Area, you won’t run out of places to fish or go for a paddle or a swim. Lakes within 15 minutes of Burke include Island Pond and Lake Willoughby. Willoughby is very popular in the summer and known for crystal clear water and sandy public beaches. The glacially carved lake goes to depths of over 300 feet and stays crisp and clean year round. Anglers have been known to reel in some of the biggest fresh water fish caught in the US!
In the summer, Vermont offers a FREE fishing day in June. This free day is perfect if you just want to try fishing for the day and not have to buy a fishing license. Check with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department for the exact date and more information on fishing in Vermont.
Ice Fishing is a popular tradition in the area and when the lakes freeze over they become villages with shanties and Anglers scattered across the ice. In the Winter, Vermont hosts a FREE ice fishing day in January so you can drop a line without needing a license.
