Abby Long Chosen 2019 Burke Citizen of the Year!

announced September 29, 2019

Congrats and Thank You to the 2019 Burke Citizen of the Year, Abby Long! Chamber President, John Kascenska surprised her with the award at the Burke Fall Festival. Although she’s lived in Burke less than two years, from the get go she has been an exuberant and thoughtful advocate for the community. As Executive Director of Kingdom Trails, she works hard to make sure KT benefits residents as much as it does our many visitors. She has shown her commitment to the community in many ways including assisting the East Burke Fire Brigade to purchase a Remote Rescue vehicle and setting up the KT mini grant program for local projects that support recreation, environmental stewardship, creative arts and other goals. She has invited Vermont leaders including Governor Phil Scott and Peter Welch to the area to help build awareness and support for our remote corner of the State. She also serves on the board of the Vermont Trails and Greenways Council. Abby also volunteers her time and is a great supporter of many local organizations including the OneBurke Traffic & Trails Committee, the Northeast Kingdom Young Professionals Network, NEK Collaborative, area schools, and the Burke Area Chamber of Commerce. We are honored to present her with the award and thankful to have her in our community. Thanks Abby!
