The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is a hidden jewel that many people do not even know about. There are many place to see and enjoy the beauty that the Burke area has to offer. Burke Mountain Take a drive up the toll road in the summer and fall to get to the summit of the mountain. Enjoy a picnic lunch, a walk to the top of the towers, and 360° views. There is a perfect view of the glacial carved Lake Willoughby. Lake Willoughby This glacial carved lake is 7 miles long and reaches the depths of over 300 feet. The lake is listed as a National Natural Landmark with catches that include rainbow trout, lake trout, brown trout, landlocked salmon and yellow perch. There are 3 beaches on the lake. Two at the South end and a larger beach at the North end of the lake. Natural areas are located within the State Forest including Willoughby Cliffs Natural Area. The vertical cliffs of Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Hor which provide an environment conducive for arctic and cliff-alpine plants. The sheer cliffs also offer natural nesting habitat for peregrine falcon. Trail heads for Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Hor are located at the South end of the lake. Darling Hill Road Darling Hill Road is well know for it's beautiful hundred year old maple trees that canopy the country road, historical Darling mansion and barns, and the breathtaking views that surround the hill.
