About Burke
Being Here is Believing
burke vermont clubhouse and library

It really still is the way life used to be.

Experience the Vermont of legend: rolling hills of woods and pasture, expansive vistas, miles of beckoning backcountry roads and trails, rural villages tucked into the folds of an historic landscape, rushing streams, pristine lakes and picturesque ponds, first-rate skiing without the crowds or the exorbitant prices, lovely inns and cozy B&Bs, delicious dining, and enduring general stores. All this--and a friendly, eclectic mix of folk who welcome you with hospitality and charm--can still be found around Burke, Vermont.

A Place for All Seasons.

With an ideal mix of coniferous and deciduous trees, variable terrain, and established facilities, the Burke area is an ideal spot for all-season recreation. Nearly 200 miles of hiking, skiing, trekking, and mountain bike trails connect to other Kingdom area trails, and to the VAST regional snowmobile trail system-- shared by various outdoors enthusiasts throughout the year. Burke Mountain's variety of challenging alpine slopes and the beautifully groomed cross-country trails are renowned for their lack of crowds and stunning setting. Ice fishing, sledding, and ice skating are also popular in winter. In spring, summer, and fall, the area's lakes prove ideal for boating, swimming, and fishing. There are also horses to ride, peaceful walks to take down country lanes, wildlife to watch, and plenty of porches--with rocking chairs just waiting. Autumn brings the spectacular foliage we are justly famous for, along with farm, harvest, and fall festivals. Year round, there are numerous places to shop, dine, explore, and enjoy.

The Heart of the Northeast Kingdom.

Burke is also the center of a wide range of shopping and cultural venues. Explore our villages, country stores, craft shops, art galleries, historic libraries, and museums. Attend a classical music concert, check out a coffee house jazz trio, or catch a rock band at a local pub. Enjoy fine dining or an informal snack in our variety of restaurants, inns, cafes, and lodges. Find that perfect outfit, great gift, or unique collectible in our quaint shops, or make a quick side trip to one of the larger towns where you will find all the necessities of life. Getting away from it all doesn't mean leaving the amenities behind.

Discover Burke . . . near your heart, close at hand, and a world away from the rat race
